In Ontario, TreeAzin® systemic insecticide is considered the safest, as well as one of the most effective approaches to protecting your ash tree(s) from emerald ash borer. It is the treatment chosen by most Ontario cities, municipalities and conservation authorities.
If you want to protect your favourite ash tree with Treeazin injections, or need an overall management plan for a property with dozens of ash trees, contact us for more information on how we can help: Call 519-362-5796 or e-mail
TreeAzin® contains a naturally occurring chemical extracted from seeds of the Indian neem tree which is approved for use in organic food production. It is fully registered in Ontario for treatment of EAB and other insects. Studies have shown that it is effective against EAB, has a
very low toxicity for humans, other mammals, and birds, and does not pose a significant threat
to non-target insects. Trees can decline due to various factors and no treatment guarantees
survival – however virtually all untreated ash trees will be killed once infested by EAB.
TreeAzin® treatment for EAB is most effective if it occurs while the tree is still healthy – either
before or just as the insect starts to infest the tree. It is injected directly into the base of a tree
from late spring through summer (late May – Aug). Once injected, it provides up to two years of
protection against EAB – biennial treatments will be required for 6 – 10 years while significant
populations of EAB are present. For most effective control it is recommended that during peak beetle infestation of an area (usually 4 - 6 years following detection, one or two consecutive year treatments be added into the biennial schedule.
